There are 2 tiers to resists, First and Second tiers. First tier resists come from items and spells. Melee buff spells are non existant in mid, except for GSV. I believe Animists have a 1 min spell casted by a shroom, and not sure if albs get any. Second tier comes from RAs( Physical Defense(Melee Passive), Empty Mind(Magic, Active), Avoidance of Magic(Magic, Active) ). Item bonuses are capped at 26%, Buff spells dont exceed 24%, with RAs, you can theoretically be invincible to magic(includes LWs, and you cant literally be immune, just that magic damage will tickle ). Examples: Say you have 24% heat resist on armor, and bot casted 2nd highest buff, 16%. You have 40% tier one resists. You run with AoM3 and EM1, thats 20% tier 2 resists. To calculate how much actual resist you have, use starting damage of 100(kind of easy to understand why, 100 = 100% Wink ). 100 - 40%(tier one) = 60 damage. Now take out the second tier from the remaining damage: 60 * (1.00-.20) = 48 damage. why do the 1.00-.2? 1.00 = 100%, .20 = 20%, percents are just decimals under 1. You need to find out what percent of the damage you are taking away, in this case, 20% from tier 2, leaving you with 80% damage. effective resist is the reduced damage taken from the starting damage: 100 - 48 = 52% So, according to this, you get diminishing returns from RAs with the more resists from spells/items.
